What a Pro Grade can adds over a standard can

Pro Grade is the Homax name for aerosol texture that behaves more like a hopper gun. On the wall cans you adjust both the spray tip and the pressure, the grip is shaped to tire your hand less, and the formula is tinted so you can see coverage and needs no primer before paint. The wall cans hold 25 oz, against 10 or 20 for most standard cans, and the oil-based orange peel can covers up to 125 sq ft. You get knockdown, orange peel in water or oil, and three ceiling versions.

The knockdown and orange peel ceiling cans spray from a vertical tip with an adjustable nozzle, and the orange peel one covers up to 100 sq ft at a fine setting and half that at a heavy one. The Pro Grade popcorn can matches polystyrene, perlite and other popcorn aggregates. If the water-based orange peel wall can sputters, its label asks for a full minute of upside-down shaking and a 15 to 20 minute soak in warm water. The Tex-Pro sprayer is a different tool: it runs from an air compressor on cartridges sold separately, and few owners have rated it so far.

Questions

Pro Grade texture: what people ask

What do you get from Homax Pro Grade texture that the regular cans lack?

Control. The Pro Grade cans let you adjust the pattern and the pressure, close to a hopper gun, without a compressor, mixing or hopper. The wall cans hold 25 oz, and the orange peel and knockdown ceiling cans have a vertical spray tip and an adjustable nozzle.

Do you need to prime Homax Pro Grade texture before painting?

The Pro Grade orange peel and knockdown formulas are sold as no-prime. The water-based cans are tinted and low odor, and the oil-based orange peel is described as fast-drying with a lower odor. Follow the can for drying time before you paint over the patch.

How should you shake a Homax Pro Grade can?

Hard and upside down, for one full minute before you start, and keep shaking during use. The directions for the water-based orange peel can add a tip: soak the can in warm water for 15 to 20 minutes to bring up the pressure.
