Independent guide
About this independent Homax guide
We are independent editors who explain Homax texture, tub, caulk and wall repair products to homeowners doing their own fixes. Homax Products does not run, review or pay for anything we write.
What Homax Products makes
Homax makes the small fixes of a house. The largest group is texture: aerosol cans for orange peel, knockdown and popcorn on walls and ceilings, Pro Grade cans with an adjustable spray, touch-up kits and hopper guns for bigger jobs. In the bathroom you find Tough as Tile refinishing kits for tubs, sinks and tile, the Tile Guard grout cleaner, coating and sealer, and peel-and-stick caulk strips with tools to remove and shape caulk.
For walls the line runs to steel and mesh patches, drywall knives, a tape and mud dispenser and self-adhesive wall guards. Rhodes American steel wool and bronze wool, in grades from super fine to extra coarse, carry the Homax name too, as do notched adhesive spreaders for flooring, a hardener for leftover latex paint and a few tarp and dust barrier parts.
Every product page here belongs to the Homax selection as it is sold today. Questions about this guide go to patchdesk@homax-us.com.
Who owns the Homax brand
Homax Products is a company in Bellingham, Washington, and it has been part of PPG Industries since 2014. Several lines carry a second name beside Homax, so you will see Tough as Tile and Tile Guard in the bathroom, Pro Grade on the larger texture cans and Rhodes American on the steel wool. They all come from the same company.
Who we are
We are an independent group of editors writing for homeowners who handle their own repairs. We are not Homax Products or PPG, we are not affiliated with either company, and neither of them pays us or sees our pages before you do.
The buttons on each product lead to our retail partner, and if you buy through one, we may earn a small commission. Homax pays us nothing, so what we tell you about a can or a kit comes from its label, not from the company.
How we pick and describe products
Every Homax product that is in stock with our partner gets its own page, grouped by the job it does. We write each one from the facts on its label and in its product data: size, coverage, dry or cure time, base, grade, width or notch. When a number is missing from those sources, you will not find it with us either, because a guessed coverage figure can leave you a can short halfway up a wall.
Star ratings come from shoppers, and we count them once per product family. A steel wool grade sold in 12, 16 and 36 pad bags shares one pool of reviews, so you see that pool once instead of added up three times. Prices are updated on a schedule, and if the price at checkout differs from ours, the checkout price is the one that counts.
How to use the guide
Start from the job if you know what is broken. Four job pages gather products for texturing a wall or ceiling, refinishing a tub or tile, patching a wall and caulking a joint, and scrubbing or stripping a surface, each pulling cans, kits and tools from several shelves onto one list.
For the repair itself, read one of our four guides: matching wall texture, patching a popcorn ceiling, refinishing a bathtub and patching drywall. Each guide links the public sources behind its safety notes, such as EPA pages on asbestos and lead and NIOSH work on drywall dust, so you can read them in full before you pick up a knife or a can.
Questions
About Homax and this guide
Is this site run by Homax?
No. This is an independent guide to the Homax line, written by editors with no tie to the brand. We are not affiliated with Homax Products or with PPG, and nobody there reviews or approves what we publish. More on who we are is on about this guide.
Who makes Homax products?
Homax Products, based in Bellingham, Washington. The company has been part of PPG Industries since 2014. The line covers wall and ceiling texture, Tough as Tile and Tile Guard for the bathroom, caulk strips, wall patches and Rhodes American steel wool.
Does Homax pay for what you read about its products?
No. Homax does not pay us or send us products. The buttons lead to our retail partner, and we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases, which does not change the price you pay or which products we describe.
How do you decide what to say about each Homax product?
We write from the label and the product data: size, base, coverage, grade, width or notch. Ratings are counted once per product family, not once per pack size. Where a fact is missing, we leave it out rather than guess.
