    • Buy enough cans: at 2 sq. ft. per can, even a modest patch can take several.
    • Older sprayed ceilings may contain asbestos, so have them tested before you cut into them.

    How to use

    1. Step 1Cut out and replace damaged drywall, then let the patch dry.
    2. Step 2Shake the can, hold it below the patch and spray up in short bursts.
    3. Step 3Add bursts until the chip density looks like the ceiling around the repair.

    About this product

How close can a can get to original popcorn?

Original popcorn, sprayed when the house was built, is the hardest kind to match by eye. Homax Professional Match Popcorn Ceiling Texture aims at that original texture. The aerosol carries real polystyrene chips and sprays through a vertical tip, so you can match a contractor-sprayed ceiling without renting a hopper gun.

Plan on small jobs. One 16 oz can covers up to 2 square feet, enough for a fixture hole or a cut-out patch but not for a wide stain. The water-based formula is low in odor and wipes up with water while wet. If your patch is larger, buy more than one can before you start.

    Before you start

Sprayed-on decorative or acoustic ceiling material in an older home can contain asbestos. Do not scrape, sand or wet it until a sample has been tested by an accredited lab, and leave removal of anything that tests positive to a trained contractor.
