- Work evenly over the whole surface, because a spot rubbed longer will look duller than the rest.
- On painted trim in an older house, have the paint tested for lead before you rub it.

About this product
Taking a high gloss down to a softer sheen
A gloss finish that came out too shiny does not have to be stripped. Rub it with #00, the very fine grade, and it dulls to a semi-gloss look. The same pad buffs the last coat on painted trim and helps repair a worn varnished surface.
Grade #00 also earns its place on metal. You can restore dull aluminum window frames and screens, clean old brass, polish copper and clean golf clubs. It smooths burns on furniture and leather too. It is finer than the fine grade and coarser than extra fine, and Homax bags it in 12, 16 or 36 pads.
If the Rhodes American Steel Wool, #00 Very Fine does not fit your job, the steel wool shelf has 9 more products from the Homax catalog.

Before you start
Stripping paint from old furniture or trim? In a home built before 1978 the paint may contain lead, and the EPA asks you not to clean or rub such paint with steel wool, because it raises lead dust. Have the paint tested first.
