Refinish the tub or rescue the grout?

A worn tub or tile surround can be refinished in place with Homax Tough as Tile. The brush-on kit is a one-part finish, so there is nothing to mix, and the box holds the paint, steel wool, a prep cleaner, gloves and a brush. One 21 oz can covers a standard tub or two bathroom sinks, and the finish needs 48 hours to cure before you use the tub. The spray-on kit is an epoxy enamel in two 16 oz aerosols. Both release vapors, and a small bathroom holds them, so read the ventilation directions on the label before you open the can.

Grout has its own line under the Tile Guard name. You start with the tile and grout cleaner, a non-acid concentrate made to cut soil and hard water buildup. Then you either seal or recolor. The silicone grout sealer is a water-based penetrating sealer for grout between glazed ceramic tiles, and you apply it with a sponge or brush. The white grout coating comes in a 4.3 oz applicator that renews up to 75 sq ft of grouted tile, but Homax does not recommend it for unglazed tile, slate or concrete block.

Questions

About Homax tub, tile and grout

How long does Homax Tough as Tile need before you use the tub?

The brush-on finish needs 48 hours to cure. Plan the job so the bathroom can sit unused for two full days, and keep water, bath mats and bottles off the new finish until the time is up.

Can you use Homax Tile Guard grout coating on any tile?

No. The white grout coating is not recommended for unglazed tile, slate or concrete block. It is meant for grout lines on showers, counters, floors and walls with glazed tile, and its 4.3 oz applicator renews up to 75 sq ft of grouted area.

Where can you use Homax Tile Guard silicone sealer?

Grout between glazed ceramic tiles, indoors or outdoors. It is a water-based, low-odor penetrating sealer that you apply with a sponge or brush, and it comes in 16 oz and 22 oz bottles. Clean the grout with the Tile Guard cleaner first so you are not sealing dirt in.

How should you air out the room when you use Homax Tough as Tile?

Follow the ventilation directions on the label. The EPA lists paints and aerosols among the sources of indoor VOCs and advises more ventilation while you use them. A small bathroom holds vapors, so plan how fresh air will reach it before you start.
