    For best results

    • Practice the pattern on a piece of drywall held overhead before the real patch.
    • Before you sand texture on an older ceiling, have it tested for asbestos.
    • Keep a window open and a fan running while you spray, as the label directs.

    How to use

    1. Step 1Cover the floor and furniture, and mask the walls near the repair.
    2. Step 2Shake the can, hold it below the patch, and spray upward in light passes.
    3. Step 3For knockdown, wait until the spatter firms, then skim it with a wide knife.
    4. Step 4Let it dry, sand any high spots, then paint the ceiling.

    About this product

How do you spray texture straight up at a ceiling?

Repairing a ceiling means spraying overhead, which is awkward with a can built for walls. Homax Ceiling Texture for orange peel and knockdown uses a vertical spray tip, so you can hold the can under the repair and aim up at it. One 20 oz can patches orange peel or knockdown ceilings over up to 80 square feet.

The formula is water-based and low in odor, and drips come up with water while they are still wet. Once it dries, you can sand down a high spot and paint the ceiling to match. For knockdown, let the spatter set a little and then flatten it with a wide knife. Use it on small damaged sections, not to texture a whole room.

    Before you start

Sprayed-on decorative or acoustic ceiling material in an older home can contain asbestos. Do not scrape, sand or wet it until a sample has been tested by an accredited lab, and leave removal of anything that tests positive to a trained contractor.
