About this product
Three coats of joint compound, one knife
Finishing drywall usually takes three coats of joint compound, each wider than the last, and usually three knives to match. The Homax Triple Edge Dry Knife puts all three widths on one plastic tool: a 4 inch edge for the first coat, a 6 inch edge for the second and a 10 inch edge for the top coat.
The edges are beveled and straight, and the knife weighs just over 3 ounces. Handling one tool with three edges takes a little practice, since the other two are always near your hand. It also works for smoothing wallpaper as you hang it.

Before you start
In a house built before 1978 the paint around the hole may contain lead. Do not dry-sand or power-sand old paint until it has been tested, mist the area and clean up with a damp cloth instead of a broom. Drywall dust itself is fine and travels, so sand with a mask on.
