    • Have everything ready before you wet the patch, because the plaster hardens fast once water hits it.
    • On a textured wall, dab matching texture over the set patch before paint so it does not read as a smooth square.

    How to use

    1. Step 1Trim the patch so it covers the hole with an overlap on every side.
    2. Step 2Peel and press it on, smoothing it over the curve or texture.
    3. Step 3Wet the plaster as the package directs and smooth it while it is soft.
    4. Step 4After it sets, skim with compound where needed, then prime and paint.

    About this product

Patching a hole on a curved or textured surface

A stiff metal patch only sits right on a flat wall. This Homax patch is a flexible, self-adhesive mesh already coated with plaster, so you can bend it around a curve, press it onto texture or trim it to an odd shape. The pack holds two squares, 6 by 6 inches each.

Water starts it: once you wet the plaster, it sets within minutes and takes the shape of the surface under it. That makes it a fit for drywall, plaster and stucco, including uneven spots. Since the first coat already rides on the mesh, you have less compound to build up afterward.

    Before you start

In a house built before 1978 the paint around the hole may contain lead. Do not dry-sand or power-sand old paint until it has been tested, mist the area and clean up with a damp cloth instead of a broom. Drywall dust itself is fine and travels, so sand with a mask on.
