    For best results

    • Rinse every tool before compound hardens on it, since dried crumbs leave streaks in the next coat.
    • Close off the room while you sand and run a fan in a window, because drywall dust drifts through a house.

    How to use

    1. Step 1Fill the pan partway and load your knife from its straight edge.
    2. Step 2Bed the tape in a coat of compound with the 3 inch knife, wiping out the excess.
    3. Step 3Run the corner tool down inside corners to set both faces in one pass.
    4. Step 4Spread wider finish coats with the 3-in-1 knife, then smooth the dry seam with the hand sander.

    About this product

Tools to tape and finish a new drywall seam

Hanging even one sheet of drywall leaves you with seams to tape, corners to fill and screw heads to cover. This kit puts the basic hand tools for that work in one set: a 10 inch mud pan, a 3-in-1 drywall knife, an inside corner tool, a hand sander and a 3 inch knife.

Every piece is molded from high-impact polystyrene, so the set is light in the hand and rinses clean in a bucket. Homax leaves out the tape and the compound, so choose those for your seam before you start. For a basement room or a remodeled wall, it covers the hand work from first coat to sanding.

    Before you start

In a house built before 1978 the paint around the hole may contain lead. Do not dry-sand or power-sand old paint until it has been tested, mist the area and clean up with a damp cloth instead of a broom. Drywall dust itself is fine and travels, so sand with a mask on.
