    • Press lightly, because the long pole multiplies your force and can scuff the paper face of the drywall.
    • If the ceiling or its joint compound may be old, have it tested for asbestos before you sand.

    How to use

    1. Step 1Cut sandpaper to 3-1/4 by 11 inches and clamp it over the foam pad.
    2. Step 2Attach the head to a broom handle and make sure the joint swings freely.
    3. Step 3Draw the pad along the seam in long, light strokes, keeping it flat to the surface.
    4. Step 4Wipe the dust off and look at the seam under a work light before the next coat.

    About this product

Sanding ceiling seams while you stand on the floor

Sanding a ceiling joint from a ladder means climbing down and moving the ladder every arm's length. This Homax sander puts the pad on the end of a pole, so you stay on the floor and work vertical joints high on the wall and the seams overhead.

The head is heavy-duty yellow plastic on a movable universal joint, and it fits the standard wooden or metal broom handle you already own. Aluminum clamps and steel bolts hold a sheet of sandpaper 3-1/4 inches wide and 11 inches long over a black foam pad. The head weighs about 16 ounces.

    Before you start

In a house built before 1978 the paint around the hole may contain lead. Do not dry-sand or power-sand old paint until it has been tested, mist the area and clean up with a damp cloth instead of a broom. Drywall dust itself is fine and travels, so sand with a mask on.
